    Abstract

The case study chosen is a Taneka, a 17-year-old African American female. She is a high school junior the oldest of three siblings living with her single-parent mother. As the oldest child, Taneka has held major responsibilities throughout her life to support her working mother, such as carrying for her younger siblings, Derrick, now age 14, and Kenya, age 12. Krumboltz Learning Theory of Careers Choice and Counseling (LTCC) would be the best approach for Taneka, since her environmental conditions is interfering with her ability to make a career decision without abandoning her mother and siblings.

The Learning Theory of Career Choice and Counseling (LTCC) was developed by John D. Krumboltz. Career decisions are the product of countless numbers of learning experiences made possible by encounters with the people, institutions and events in a person’s particular environment. People choose their careers based on what they have learned. Krumboltz proposed that there are four main factors that influence career choice, which are genetic influences, environmental conditions and events, learning experiences and task approach skills (e.g., self-observation, goal setting and information seeking) (Mitchell & Krumbolt, 1996). The consequences of these factors and most particularly learning experiences lead people to develop beliefs about the nature of careers and their role in life (self-observational generalizations). These beliefs, whether realistic or not, influence career choices and work related behavior.

  • CHAPTER 2 • DESIGNING ORGANIZATIONS ASSIGNMENT ONLINE

    CHAPTER 2 • DESIGNING ORGANIZATIONS 25

The strategic plan is based on the organization’s philosophy, vision, and mission. The first steps in strategic planning are:

    ● Appoint a strategic planning committee ● Interview key stakeholders ● Conduct a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis ● Develop the plan ● Communicate the plan

People who are enthusiastic, experienced, and committed to the organization are the best representatives to serve on the planning committee. Naysayers can be included once some parts of the plan are formulated. Everyone in the organization must be involved even peripherally. “Buy-in” is critical to the plan’s success.

Stakeholders include physicians, administrators, nurses, ancillary and support staff, and community representatives. They will have differing opinions about what the organization can and should do and provide valuable information unavailable elsewhere.

The SWOT analysis includes assessment of the external and internal environment (Kalisch & Curley, 2008). Data is collected from multiple sources, including stakeholder information.

    To develop the plan:

Comparison and Contrast of Police Officers as Portrayed on Television and in real life

Police officers are well trained soldiers who ensure that there is order and security in the society
through enforcing the law. The police officers as portrayed on television are similar to the real
life officers in that they all maintain order, ensure that the citizens are complying with the law
and are habitually holding guns to deter crime. The police officers in most television shows are
frequently intervening and resolving conflicts, ensuring that the streets stay clear of wrongful
doers and there are no drugs that are being sold.

The other similarity of the police officers as shown on television and in real life is that they
regularly use motorbikes, bicycles or police cars or lorries that have their logo and sirens to stop
people who they suspect are doing wrong. In real life, police officers move around using these
means to ensure that they patrol all areas well and that the public is well protected. Police
officers also use their sirens, and when the suspects do not stop, they pursue them using any
means they have available on television shows. In real life, police officers also pursue the
suspects with the vehicles or bikes that they have officially, with sirens on to ensure that they
stop the people they are pursing.

    Name 2
The police officers in real life and on television differ in that there is generally less shooting and
usage of guns in real life, unless all other possible means of interventions are exhausted and there
was great danger posed to an officer or a member of the public. On television, killings are easily
done and dismissed once they have happened, as the police officers involved are seen as heroes
for having done the actions. In real life, police officers have to use fire sparingly and only when
it is evident that a life could be lost if fire is not used. After a shooting has occurred, police
officers in real life also undergo a trial to prove that the shooting was not malicious and that in
deed there was no other means of stopping the assailants except for the use of fire. The trial
determines if the officer continues serving the community as an officer or if they are stopped if
    their actions were questionable.

In real life, officers and the community usually have a detached relationship and the only time
officers are consulted are only when there are serious matters involved such as death of
community members, burglary, mob beating among others. On television, the police officers are
shown to have a very interactive relationship with the community. Television shows ordinarily
portray police officers as approachable and that they resolve all the problems presented to them.
In reality, police officers are typically feared, they ask for fines and penalties for crimes or civil
wrongs that the community do and are usually very authoritative to an extent that the relationship
with the community is sour. When most people, especially business men in industries such as the
transport industry and private car owners, see the police officers approaching, they habitually run
away as they fear to be caught in such wrongs as over speeding, driving under the influence or
unroadworthy vehicles among others. The community also fears that the police will harass them
as they go about doing their duties through asking a lot of questions. In conclusion, police
officers relationship with the community is a bit different from how it is shown on television.

Tim Gunn and a leaky shower: Welcome to my life, little guy
First time mothers always find it challenging when motherhood sets in with the birth of their first-born babies. mothers on most times fail to get quality sleep and when other problems creep in the mother is left at a difficult position especially when the father has to go to work in order to cater for the family. “Tim Gunn and a leaky shower: Welcome to my life, little guy,” from the Washington Post is the article I chose to look in to. The article is based on a new mother who experiences a lot of the struggles that new mothers go through.
Maggie in her article,” Tim Gunn and a leaky shower: Welcome to my life, little guy,” provides a good way to learn about how mothers face a difficult task having to recover from giving birth and at the same time taking care of their newly born children. In order to escape from the tiring responsibilities of motherhood, mothers take up a form of escapism which in the case of Maggie is watching old episodes of Project Runaway.
    • Tim Gunn and a leaky shower: Welcome to my life, little guy teaches readers the need for mothers to find a way to rest from the perils of new parenting.
    a. Maggie starts watching Project runaway as a way of escaping from all the noise and stressors within the house.
    b. Maggie experienced a lot of noise coming from the construction of the house and at the same time from her baby crying.
    c. “I turned up an old episode of “Project Runaway” and jacked up the volume to drone out the crying and hammering,” which shows how much stress of an environment Maggie and her child went through and the need to escape from all that.
    d. Maggie faced challenges with the noise in the house due to the construction, the hot weather and an aging air conditioner that offered little help and pain coming from the unplanned caesarean section.
    a. Like Maggie, I have seen my aunt go through the same first time mother problems and how she has coped with all the problems to become a good mother.
    b. My aunt has developed a habit of watching a rerun of NCIS Los Angeles as a way of coping with the motherly responsibilities and resting.
    c. My aunt faced challenges when the kitchen had to be remodeled in order to offer more space for more people when she hosts guests. She had to cope with the noise from the walls being smashed and drilling of holes throughout the construction.
    d. Watching a rerun of a good series helps mothers to gain some good relaxation and strength to look out after their children throughout the day. The mothers will be refreshed, and they will be happy to enjoy the little free time they have to themselves.
    • conclusion
    a. ” Tim Gunn and a leaky shower: Welcome to my life, little guy,” provides a good way to learn about how mothers face a difficult task having to recover from giving birth and at the same time taking care of their newly born children.

  • Experiment 2: Concentration Gradients and Membrane Permeability Experiment and Answers Online

In this experiment, you will dialyze a solution of glucose and starch to observe:

The directional movement of glucose and starch.
The effect of a selectively permeable membrane on the diffusion of these molecules.
An indicator is a substance that changes color when in the presence of a specific substance. In this experiment, IKI will be used as an indicator to test for the presence of starch.

    Materials

    (5) 100 mL Beakers
    10 mL 1% Glucose Solution, C6H12O6
    4 Glucose Test Strips
    (1) 100 mL Graduated Cylinder
    4 mL 1% Iodine-Potassium Iodide, IKI
    5 mL Liquid Starch, C6H10O5
    3 Pipettes
4 Rubber Bands (Small; contain latex, handle with gloves on if allergic)

    Permanent Marker
    *Stopwatch
    *Water
    *Scissors

    *15.0 cm Dialysis Tubing

    *You Must Provide
*Be sure to measure and cut only the length you need for this experiment. Reserve the remainder for later experiments.

    Attention!

Do not allow the open end of the dialysis tubing to fall into the beaker. If it does, remove the tube and rinse thoroughly with water before refilling it with the starch/glucose solution and replacing it in the beaker.

    Note:

If you make a mistake, the dialysis tubing can be rinsed and used again.

Dialysis tubing must be soaked in water before you will be able to open it up to create the dialysis “bag.” Follow these directions for this experiment:

    1. Soak the tubing in a beaker of water for ten minutes.

    2. Place the dialysis tubing between your thumb and forefinger, and rub the two digits together in a shearing manner. This motion should open up the “tube” so that you can fill it with the different solutions.

  • Geology Homework Help: Earth Science Assignment Online

The goal of this assignment is to provide you with an overview of the geologic features and geologic history of Florida. To complete this assignment, you will use two sources: (1) the document titled Hines Geology of Florida.pdf available on Canvas in the link to Assignment 4 and (2) the following website: http://fdep.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=992bf1a70b734dbea8487aabb6ed5bee (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

The website provides a brief history of Florida by clicking on the different geologic time periods on the left. By clicking on the “Legend” you can see the estimated elevations, and more importantly, see which areas of Florida were above and below sea level (and the approximate shape of the coastline) during that period. In the questions, I refer to these two sources as the pdf and website, respectively.

The pdf has a glossary of terms in the back that may be helpful. Other terms that may be helpful. Highstand and lowstand refer to times of high and low sea level, respectively. Laurentia refers to a continental landmass that largely includes North America and Greenland prior to formation of Pangea. Gondwana refers to a continental landmass that largely included Africa, South America, and Australia, prior to formation of Pangea.
